This international colloquium will bring together the most specialized researchers in Jewish cultural expressions in the exchanges between Latin America and Europe.
The main goal will be to study and analyze the modalities of this encounter between Jewish cultural and linguistic expressions from Europe in contact with Latin American languages in their social dimension. The construction of Jewishness will be considered in its literary and artistic dimensions, including the different modes of passage represented by translation.
Traditionally, immigration countries in Latin America made schooling and linguistic unification a sine qua non for the integration of newcomers and the construction of nations from the second half of the 19th century onwards. In this context, we will question the fate of the traditional plurilingualism of the Jewish communities arriving from Europe to Latin America, its evolution and its reality today.
The colloquium will embrace interdisciplinarity and shall welcome debates at the intersection of history, sociology, sociolinguistics, philosophy, anthropology, literature, cultural studies and musicology. The interest will be focused on three main dimensions:
1) The status of Jewish languages and their place in Latin America
2) The encounter of Jewish languages with Portuguese, Spanish and their American variants
3) Translation and the dimension of 'Jewishness' as a marker of otherhood
Imaginaires européens et judéité en Amérique latine: Langues en contact, imaginaires linguistiques et traduction
Ce colloque international réunira les chercheurs les plus spécialisés dans les expressions culturelles juives, dans les échanges entre l'Amérique latine et l'Europe.
L'objectif principal sera d'étudier et d’analyser les modalités de cette rencontre entre les expressions culturelles et linguistiques juives venues d’Europe en contact avec les langues américaines dans leur dimension sociale. La construction de la judéité sera considérée dans les dimensions littéraires et artistiques en incluant les différents modes de passage représentés par la traduction.
