Transparent, robust glass is essential for solar energy, but large-scale sunlight harvesting has consequences. Glass accounts for up to 80% of a solar panel’s weight, and developing new glasses and glass-ceramics can boost both efficiency and sustainability. I’ll introduce the key physical principles behind this challenge and share some developments and perspectives
