The field of nanotechnology holds a significant position in cosmetic industry, and therefore could be termed as the science of beauty. Nanoparticles are frequently used in many cosmetic products, such as moisturizers, hair care products; make up products and sunscreen lotions. Nanoparticles (usually 1 ~ 100nm) are used to deliver Active Cosmetic Ingredients (ACI) and are found to be effective in UV light protection, site-specific (deep skin penetration) as well as controlled manner (long lasting activity). Different types of nano-materials that are used by leading cosmetic companies includes nanosomes, liposomes, etc. Even though, usage of nanoscale materials to the cosmetics have certain potential risks, still nanotechnology in cosmetic applications get more attraction. This seminar will discuss about nanotechnology in cosmetics, their potential risks, future opportunities and challenges.
