Capacitors are used for many purposes including backup power supply and tuners etc. Electrochemical capacitors are widely used and have improved function over earlier capacitors used in electrical and electronic applications. Capacitors now range in size from microchips to the size of airbus doors. Their use is in the provision of flash power for electric vehicles and portable energy storage. Research is ongoing to make a supercapacitor with the ideal characteristics of a battery while retaining its own unique characteristics
