The main idea of this project is to push up to the frontiers the performances of high temperature Raman spectroscopy. The field of interest for this is very broad, from very fundamental knowledge up to industrial applications, and is dominated by glasses and glass transition, ceramics and refractories, and molten materials (mainly oxides) The problems inherent to this type of experiments deal with the thermal emission from the sample and its environment, which is must stronger that Raman scattering and can easily completely mask the Raman relevant information. CEMHTI was some years ago the first lab by the world to use ICCDs detectors (Intensified Charge Coupled device detectors) for solving this difficulty through time-resolved optical methods. Now different groups use this approach in different fields, and the most productive of them is a laboratory from Shanghai, in China, headed by Professor You JingLin. He has a very strong experience in the field of oxides (crystalline, glassy or molten) at high temperatures. The aim of the present STUDIUM project is then to join forces and expertises of CEMHTI and Shanghai labs, by sustaining a position of invited scientist for Professor You JingLin in CEMHTI. This aims three goals : (i) to push the experimental methodology of Raman scattering at high temperatures up to the frontiers, (ii) to apply it on materials of interest for the French and Chinese partners, mainly oxides, (iii) to initiate a durable collaboration between the two labs, with exchange of researchers and students, and also between the two universities, through masters devoted to materials sciences.
The present proposal is then rather specific in the field of the Studium call from projects, as it explicitely concerns an identified foreign scientist. In fact, the contact with Prof. JouYingLin exists since March 2008, when he applied for a CNRS post-doc position opened in the light scattering group in CEMHTI. Obviously this status of post-doc was not fitting with his scientific status. We have then already deposit a proposal to The Studium in June 2008 through the so-called extraordinary procedure. The present proposal is then a new formulation, through the regular call for project procedure now.
