Modeling of reactive plasmas for nanoparticle synthesis
The project is focused on the study of reactive plasmas used for the synthesis of nanoparticles and nanostructured thin films, as well as on the characterization of these produced nanomaterials. The aims of the project are the development of theories and numerical programs to describe physical and chemical processes in reactive (mixtures of argon with acetylene, ethanol or aniline) steady-state and pulsed plasmas, and on walls, substrates and surfaces exposed to these plasmas. These theories and programs will allow to analyze the experimental data of partner-researches from GREMI and to find optimal conditions for the production of nanostructures with desired properties. The theoretical and numerical studies will be carried out by the applicant in collaboration with the partners being responsible for experimental studies on the formation of nanostructures. Prof. Denysenko will also take part in the experiments allowing him to see experimental details, limitations and approximations of the measurements, and, as a result, to develop theoretical and numerical models which will describe adequately the experiments. The activity will be carried out to get materials with new advanced properties for the following applications: environment protection, new smart materials, super capacitors, electrodes, sensors, field emission devices, medical applications, and tunable coatings. The results on plasmas containing nanoparticles obtained in the framework of the project will be also of fundamental interest for different fields including plasma chemistry, formation of different structures in plasma environment (vortices, voids and plasmoids), as well as in the field of fusion and planetary plasmas. A course of lectures devoted to the use of reactive plasmas for the formation of nanostructures will be given by the applicant during his visits to France. Organization of several workshops and conferences, which will be devoted to reactive plasmas used in different technologies, is also planned.
