PROJECT

Regulations and planning for local waste governance

The point of departure of this project is previous research on conflicts related to situations of crisis or impasse in public decision-making regarding waste treatment facilities, carried out in three countries (France, Italy and Mexico) by the research team CoST at UMR CITERES-CNR at the University of Tours. A further development along the lines of this research would be to expand our analysis to other national contexts in Europe and America.

In this context, the goal of my project is to undertake an international comparative analysis focused on the role played by plans and law in the creation and maintenance of local waste governance. Specifically, I intend to explore two aspects which where not fully developed in previous CITERES work: on one side, the role played by waste management plans in the construction of local waste governance; on the other side, the function performed by waste regulations in the maintenance and the disruption of such governance.
